It's raining popcorn! Awesome. Wouldn't it be neat? First a pop, a drop. Then harder. More pops. More drops. It's pouring popcorn. A popcorn thunderstorm. Clouds of popcorn, fluffy. Light rain brushing past as it falls from the sky. Popcorn in your ear. Rain-pops that slide down your nose. Baseball caps collect popcorn. Puddles of popcorn. Splash in butter. A popcorn-string rainbow. Raindrops grow fields of flowers. Popcorn bunnies hopping through poppies. Snow-capped mountain ranges, white popcorn peaks. Tall popcorn drifts. Avalanches. Ski swiftly down mountains of popcorn. Open your mouth and popcorn lands on your tongue like snowflakes. Popcorn balls…snow balls. Each a different shape. Puffs look like dinosaurs. Popcorn stegosaurus. Popcorn T-Rex. Wouldn't it be neat? Dueling dinosaurs made of popcorn. Flying pterodactyls and swimming plesiosaurs. Bathtubs filled with popcorn bubbles. Scuba dive the depths of a popcorn sea. A shark. A stingray. Flying popcorn fish. White sand, endless miles of popcorn salted with starfish and hermit crabs. Collecting popcorn shells in a bucket. Popcorn lost at sea among popcorn shrimp. Popcorn waves, white-capped, swirl. Steamy, rise to the sky. Popcorn Clouds. Neat. Wouldn't it be awesome? It's raining popcorn! At Bill Brown Elementary School, Lisa Brand is the director of the Literacy Lab, which supports struggling readers. Many of the students she teaches simply haven't been exposed to the many types of children's books available. She reports that reading a picture book to a child and seeing their eyes light up with wonder is an incredibly touching experience. Lisa writes stories about things children say or imagine. She writes leveled readers that focus on Mexican-American traditions. Her son is adopted and she made a promise to him when he was a baby that she would teach him about his culture, which is different from her own.
