The Octopus

By Claire Boiko

How clever an octopus would be,
If he learned how to read and write,
With a pencil tucked in each of his arms,
He could dash off a book in a night.

What a marvel an octopus might be,
If he were a music intructor,
He could be a whole band with his seven arms,
With his eighth--his own conductor!

He could bounce a ball, and wave a flag,
And draw a funny cartoon,
While knitting and juggling, he'd still have an arm
to fly a great big balloon.

Now if I could be any creature at all,
An octopus I would be.
I could do my chores in two minutes flat,
And then--have time for me.
