The Half-dead Fly
By Carolyn Argyle
Illustrations by Neal Stepp
There he lie-a half-dead fly, lying on his back.I watched him twitch and Found myself caring For the pain he must be bearing.
If I got out my magnifying glass,I might see his plight. Bugged out eyes, crumpled face Losing in life's survival race.
Bring him back to life-I can't do thatAnd I can't watch him suffer. So I went and-SPLAT! I got out the fly swatter. Carolyn Argyle is the mother of five children and teaches preschool at her home. She has published one nonfiction book and some magazine articles.
